Andy Kaufman’s holo comeback

Kaufman, who did everything from standup to being a co-star on the hit television show Taxi and even tried pro-wrestling, died in 1984, while fellow legendary comedian Foxx, who starred on his own hit TV show, Sanford & Son, died in 1991.

“They’re comedy icons”, Alki David, the founder and chief executive of Hologram US, said. So now you can live your dream of seeing the two iconic comedians in arguably their most watered-down form, because YouTube videos are for suckers.

Hologram U.S. plans to produce hologram shows featuring the comedians performing a few of their best-known material, as well as “narrative segments that dramatize biographical details”. The estates of the late comics agreed to terms with Hologram U.S. to create a stage show based on their classic routines, and the virtual performances will hit multiple major cities across the country.

According to the New York Times, technology company Hologram US will announce the tour – which will consist of parts of the comedians’ past performances – sometime Friday. “They will play several times a day for the first year and then eventually they’ll be put on a rotation with other acts”.

The company is preparing holographic versions of Billie Holiday to perform at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, and of Whitney Houston for a worldwide concert tour next year. “There are an terrible lot of dead celebrities”, David told the Times, and “…an bad lot of dead people with a lot of followers. The idea creeps him out, he writes, and “if they respected the ‘work, ‘ if they respected comedy, they’d know this is a awful idea”.
