Andy Murray ends British three-year wait for Grand Slam

Murray spoke Monday about not feeling satisfied, about aiming to add to his collection of major titles.

“It’s possible. I’d rather set the bar as high as possible and not quite achieve it”.

This was the world number two’s 11th slam final, and the first time he has not had to face either Djokovic or Roger Federer.

Murray agreed his victory was one of the greatest achievements to his name, saying: “I knew I must have achieved something special on Sunday because I got a hug from Ivan Lendl”.

“The last 18 months he has been unbelievable, he has hardly lost any matches at all, so I know that if I want to get there I’m going to have to try to win more matches against him. I played my best tennis under him”, he added.

In the cold light of day back at the All England Club, Murray said he could remember the whole evening, except that he could not recall exactly what he had been drinking.

Murray has received an affectionate display from fans calling for his knighthood after being the first British player to win Wimbledon twice.

Raonic, who averaged more than 20 aces per Wimbledon match heading into the final, had just eight against Murray. Even the Czech was spotted tearing up on Sunday, even if he tried to pass it off, in the words of Murray, as his allergies playing up. “I don’t believe it”. Milos Raonic managed to save set point once, but dropped the first set to Murray, as the Scot came up with a 40-15 win in the tenth game.

Professional tennis player Andy Murray has struggled to obtain a win in the finals of Wimbledon for years.

The 29-year-old would then only have a week prior to the beginning of the American hard court season, which includes the defence of his Olympic title next month and the US Open.

“This is the most important tournament for me every year”.

“It’s a nice thing to do but it never really happened this year, and I was just lucky to leave the stage in one piece”, he said. “Rio is obviously a big goal of mine and hopefully I can perform well there”.

“I had just enough time to change and get the ankles re-taped”, Serena commented after the match.

“It has been a long journey since the last time he [Andy] won”, said Little.

Hours after her big win, the Williams sisters were back on Centre Court where they dominated 6-3, 6-4 over Timea Babos and Yaroslava Shvedova, making their Grand Slam records final 14-0.

“I don’t want that to be the case this time”. I feel like this was for myself more than anything, and my team as well.

“There’s not one thing I’m not going to try to improve”.

“I don’t see that being an issue this time”.

To do it at Wimbledon, the game’s holy grail?

Andy was awesome and played so well from start to finish against Milos Raonic, dominating the final.
