Andy Murray faces big challenge- Wawrinka

As part of his role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, the world number one travelled to Belgrade in September to visit one of the child-friendly spaces that has been set up to support a few of the thousands of refugees and migrants travelling through Serbia.

He said: “It’s been a good year”.

“I need to respect my body and hard courts”.

“I’ve had many humanitarian or charity activities in my life”.

“Rafa, we only played once in the last couple of years”.

I expect more of the same from Murray.

Murray is only the second British player to qualify for the doubles after Jonny Marray since the event moved to the O2 in 2009 and a good crowd was in place to watch the Scot. “I mean, it’s awful what’s happening”.

But Novak Djokovic is the man to fear after he romped to victory in his opening round robin clash yesterday, demolishing Japan’s Kei Nishikori 6-1 6-1 im 65 minutes.

Evans is technically the man in possession having played in GB’s semi-final win over Australia, although that tie was played on a hardcourt, a similar surface to the one on which Evans won the Knoxsville Challenger in the U.S. on Sunday.

“I was playing very well in practice. It was a good lesson for me to learn”.

“Reflecting back on those memories of course gives me more confidence, more comfort coming into every single match”. “I’m very ashamed with this score, but I have two more matches”.

JAMIE MURRAY and John Peers began their bid to finish on a high with a thrilling debut victory at the ATP Tour Finals.

Murray and Peers are ending their three-year partnership after this tournament – they will play next year with Bruno Soares and Henri Kontinen respectively – despite the fact that they could end 2015 as the world’s No 1 pair. On his maiden appearance at the glitzy, end-of-season event, the 29-year-old and his Aussie partner John Peers, who will go their separate ways at the end of this year, were 7-6, 3-6, (11-9) winners against Italian duo Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini.

Both Murray brothers are certainties for the team and, after winning his opening match at the ATP World Tour Finals in London, Jamie backed Bedene’s claims. “It is in my mind because I am using it as a positive”, he said of the journey to Ghent. It’s lots to look forward to, obviously starting with today. Trying desperately to remember all that he learned and perfected about clay court play earlier in the year so that he can bring that to the match court against Belgium, Murray knows he has his work cut out for him.

Dan Evans, who is probably the outsider of the group given the playing surface, was meeting Frances Tiafoe, of the United States, in a hard-court tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee, while Kyle Edmund faced Carlos Berlocq on clay in Buenos Aires. It’s impossible to prepare for both [the World Tour Finals and the Davis Cup] – or it is for me.

All of which makes it rather baffling to an outsider that this will be Murray and Peers’ last tournament together before they hook up with different partners next season.

Here is what Murray had to say about the players he has to go up against: “I haven’t played against Stan for a long time. We just go out there and try to do our best for each other and for the country”.
