Andy Murray settles old grudge with easy pass into quarterfinals
The Olympic champion looked a little sluggish in his previous win over Paolo Lorenzi but dropped just five games in a one-sided 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 victory in NY.

With the year’s final grand slam entering its second week Murray dispatched the 22nd seed in just two hours, signalling he is well prepared to extend a dream summer that has included a second Wimbledon title and a second Olympic gold medal.
The 29-year-old who was broken only once in the entire game, delivered the fastest serve of his career at 141mph, which simply blew Dimitrov away.
Reflecting on his demolition of Dimitrov, Murray said: “I played extremely well, I served very well when I was behind”.
“I think a lot has changed over the past year and a half for me”. I think that the other fastest serve was here at the US Open around 138 maybe, but I’ve never hit over 140.
“I didn’t give him an opportunity, once I was ahead, to let him back in the match”, the No. 2-seeded Murray said. He won 11 of his 12 first-serve points while making just six unforced errors. Tonight was the first night when I’ve been in here and it’s been a little bit windy but it’s great conditions in here.
Andy Murray highlighted an eventless day at the US Open tennis tournament with all the big names winning their respective matches at the Flashing Meadows. However, Murray knows that Nishikori is in good form, and he will have to perform at a high level to get the better of him.
“When I made the decision to do the surgery, I always believed I will come back, for sure. Of course, he deserves all the credit today”.
The pair have a long history, having faced off nine times previously with the last meeting being won by Dimitrov in three sets at Miami.
“It was lucky and I doubt I’ll ever do it again”.
“It was a really good match”.
Halep, the 2014 French Open runner-up and seeded No. 5, was the first player to break Williams’ serve in the tournament and the first to take a set off the No. 1 seed. “I’m doing in a good way because I’m playing good tennis”.
“We’ll wait for the players to arrive in Glasgow and see what state they’re in”, British captain Smith said.
“I’m so glad to be part of the last eight in this tournament, and that I will have the chance to play another big challenge after tomorrow”. “It’s not only because I’ve been winning matches or anything like that”. Should Murray win the Open, it would mark the first time he won multiple majors in one year.
After a strong showing in Cincinnati where he would eventually fall to Marin Cilic, he has managed to advance to the fourth round even if it hasn’t been completely comfortable. “I started to enjoy those butterflies before a match, complaining to your coach that you’re, like, short of breath because you’re so nervous to come on court”.
