Andy Murray vs John Millman, Wimbledon 2016

World No.2 Murray eased to a 6-3 7-5 6-2 victory, and will now fancy his chances of a second SW19 success, having seen rival Novak Djokovic dumped out by Sam Querrey on No.1 court.

Ranked 76, Lu came into the match on an 11-match winning streak after clinching Challenger titles in Surbiton and Ilkley and showed his confidence by breaking Murray’s serve in the opening game.

“I know that tennis can change pretty quickly and I know you’re one big injury away from being back at university”.

Lu had a last flurry of brilliance to work two break points and several deuces, but Murray aced to hold, 6-3.

At that point the roof was shut, and Murray found his rhythm to move 5-3 ahead but then saw two set points saved by Millman.

“The first set was a tough set”.

“Towards the end of the second I started hitting the ball much cleaner and was more comfortable”. I’m happy with that and when I needed to this week, I stepped up and played my best tennis.

“I had to be patient and played some good stuff in the third set”.

“But we start off at 0-all and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got”. “But the thing that motivated me the most was the fact that I knew I still hadn’t reached my potential”. “It’s what you dream of, playing on the biggest courts against the biggest players”.

The third round at Wimbledon is uncharted territory for me, but we start out at zero-all.

“I think the second and third sets I played well”, he said. “That was after Marcus Willis’s match, because it was just such a great story and incredible to see that”.

“I didn’t think I’d be answering these questions in a million years”, Willis said. He was just laughing the whole time at the beginning. “Your job is to go out there and try to win the matches that are there in front of you”.

Raonic has been working with John McEnroe since the grass-court season started. He was ranked, I want to say, about 200 at the time.

He then backed up in the second round with a convincing victory over Benoit Paire in four sets 7-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. “It was obviously a good first week back together”.

Evans entered the Grand Slam with a 0-3 career record at Wimbledon but has won two straight matches to equal his best performance at a major, at the U.S. Open in 2013.

“I was getting frustrated with it all”, he said. He’s not going into the match as favourite.

“It wasn’t easy for him to win games”.

“He plays different to a lot of the guys, too”. He’s not sort of as unorthodox as Marcus, but he’ll serve and volley a little bit, come forward and use a lot of slice.

Most who took to Centre Court to watch No2 seed Andy Murray play his way to what looked like a straightforward third-round place may not have been familiar with his 32-year-old opponent from Chinese Taipei, Yen-Hsun Lu.

“When she’s hitting the line on those serves, even if I went the right way, I wasn’t going to reach them very good”, Stosur said.
