Williams, who can move past the Open Era record she shares with Steffi Graf if she goes all the way to a 23rd Grand Slam title in NY, said the major match-win mark was on her radar at Wimbledon.

Serena Williams reacts after winning a point against Vania King during the second round of the U.S. Open tennis tournament, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, in NY.

World No.1 Serena Williams eased into the third round with a decisive win over American wildcard Vania King at the US Open.

In 2010, Rafa Nadal tweaked his service action to give him more power and it helped him to US Open glory later that year. Her mood brightened when she was reminded that she had logged her 306 Grand Slam Open-era record singles win, tying the legendary Martina Navratilova.

After her victory, she said in her post-match interview, “I’m so grateful to be here, still playing, still winning matches, and I can’t wait for the next round”.

“I feel like I made a lot of errors”, said the top seed, who made 28 unforced errors – 17 more than King. “I knew at Wimbledon that I wanted to get there”.

“We change stuff all of the time, but it takes time to adjust and then get used to that”.

The second set was a far easier affair as Granollers began to wilt, and the world No 2 needed less than 35 minutes, twice breaking his opponent’s serve and cruising through his own service games. She compiled a 38-4 edge in winners.

In a rain-delayed contest, Radwanska rallied from 4-1 down in the opening set, forcing a tie-break, which she claimed in a topsy-turvy tussle. I’m still in this sport and I just never take that moment to look back and see all the things that I’ve done because I don’t want to do that.

Yes, there were problems. The pair was sitting just one row behind Williams’ family. Bey and Jay sat a few rows behind Williams’ family on Thursday night (Sept. 1, 2016) as the tennis pro defeated Vania King with a final score of 6-3. Suffice to say that it did not take long: Serena has become 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of the tournament. I don’t think there should be labels.

The 36-year-old tennis star, who has seven Grand Slam titles to her name, kept a food diary for Cosmopolitan.com, revealing everything she ate during the four days leading up Thursday’s match against Julia Goerges of Germany.

“It was a little bit (of an adjustment)”, Halep said about playing under the roof.

“I knew it was on the horizon”, Serena said. Navratilova retired with a 306-49 mark.

That Williams can perform so highly on an off day should warrant concern for the 47th-ranked Larsson, who bowed in straight sets in their only two meetings. After a pause, she added: “several more steps”.

Williams is aiming for her 23rd Grand Slam title to surpass Steffi Graf and sixth U.S. Open crown to pass Chris Evert, both Open era records.
