Angelique Kerber trying to forget number one dream ahead of US Open

Shriver, a TV analyst and runner-up in the 1978 U.S. Open, favors Williams in NY and again in January at Melbourne.

Victory in NY, where Murray won the first of three Grand Slam titles in 2012, would take his overall tally to four and with his Olympic victory to add to his Wimbledon triumph, give him the edge over Djokovic to end 2016 as the year’s most successful player.

Now, with a major title under her belt, Kerber feels better equipped to handle the expectations.

“I’m a Madison Keys fan because of her power on her serve and her ground strokes”, she said.

At age 34, injuries have taken their toll on her season, limiting her to only seven events played.

Vinci deserved credit, but it was clear that the American was not at her best. By 2013, she made the top 50.

‘The timing is tricky, ‘ he said of the event to be held in Prague a year next month. Makarova lost to Williams in that 2014 semifinal here, but beat her at the 2012 Australian Open. That’s not a surprise.

Serena Williams admits she feels under-cooked ahead of the start of the US Open on Monday.

Serena Williams celebrates her Wimbledon win in July. I’ve played a lot of tennis and played a lot of matches.

If she is going to win the title this year, she’ll have to overcome Angelique Kerber, Garbine Muguruza and Simona Halep.

Between Wimbledon and the Rio Games, del Potro defeated three of the U.S. Open’s top four seeds.

Kerber is the No. 2-ranked player in the world.

Asked when her shoulder problems began, Williams replied: “Ironically enough, the day after the finals of Wimbledon”. If the Spaniard manages to clinch her second major title of the year, the number one ranking will also be hers. I think one thing I think that’s pretty impressive is she gets a lot of balls back. Only Margaret Court has won more, 24 – 11 as a professional, 13 as an amateur.

Murray has won both his previous matches against his first-round opponent, the Czech Republic’s Lukas Rosol, though their meeting in Munich a year ago was a feisty affair.

Now 29, Andy Murray is realistic about his tennis future. Struggling against the big-serving Sam Querrey of the United States, defending champion Djokovic was knocked out of Wimbledon this year, and although he did not discuss any injury at the time, is alleged to have been struggling with wrist issues and fatigue. He was troubled by his left wrist in Rio and also failed to medal at the Olympics.

“The wrist hasn’t been ideal for the last three and a half weeks”, Djokovic said.

As for Djokovic’s troublesome wrist, Murray sees it this way: “I’ve had a long summer as well”.

Earlier in the tournament, Williams could run into opponents who have eliminated her at past majors. However, when she gets to the quarterfinals, the discomfort will be too much for her, and she will lose.

At the WTA finals in October she needed to take only a set off the already-eliminated Lucie Safarova to move out of the group but crumbled, losing 6-4 6-3.
