The Indians tied a francise record with eight stolen bases.

On the very next pitch, Davis got a healthy jump and recorded his 30th steal of the year by taking third base. “We stole bases. We didn’t just run with abandon”. He was a big part of the blockbuster deal that sent Adam Eaton to Chicago and Mark Trumbo to Arizona three years ago.
“It was a sloppy game and it wasn’t youth tonight”. “He looks really good. Definitely slow to the plate”. The Indians have players up and down the lineup that are stolen base threats, and so the strategy made sense. He’s pitched 18 consecutive scoreless innings versus the Indians. Ramirez led off with a single, stole second and third, and scored on a single by Abraham Almonte, tying the score at 3.
Meanwhile Carlos Carrasco was struggling out of the gate.
A home run by Calhoun keyed a two-run first inning for the Angels, but it was all Cleveland after that.
The fifth inning was the culmination of the strategy, and it worked to perfection. Cleveland leads the American League with 92 stolen bases, and outfielder Rajai Davis tops the league with 31 steals. “Other than that it was a couple pitches here and there that hurt him”. Cleveland is using Francisco Lindor as their designated hitter on Friday, while Michael Martinez – and his.279 wOBA this season – will start at shortstop. In the eighth, Ramirez doubled home a run and Guyer tacked on a two-RBI single, giving him five for the night to tie his career high, to cap the Indians’ onslaught at 13-3. Ramirez would then steal second, and Brandon Guyer would drive both Lindor and Ramirez home with an excuse-me swing. “Obviously, controlling the running game got away from him”. Or in other words, it’s when a player isn’t thinking. After drawing a lead-off walk, Davis immediately tested Angels rookie Tyler Skaggs by bolting for second to record his first steal of the night. It’s also the most the Angeles have ever allowed in a single game.
Carrasco went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs and fanning 8. Jose Ramirez also had three steals, while Kipnis and Francisco Lindor had one apiece as Cleveland increased its league-leading total to 92.The eight stolen bases tied the Indians’ team record, originally set August 27, 1917 against Washington.Guyer had three hits, including a home run, and Ramirez also homered in the seventh inning to provide the Indians with their 10th run. The last time a Cleveland club stole that many bases, Babe Ruth was still a starting pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, and Major League Baseball was still very much in the Dead Ball Era. Davis has only started 82 of the Indians’ 113 games.

The last time they stole eight bases in a single game was on August 27, 1917, against Walter Johnson and the Washington Senators.
