Angels left-hander Tyler Skaggs will be pitching in his first major-league game since July 31, 2014, after undergoing Tommy John surgery to fix a torn ulnar collateral ligament and then suffering a shoulder setback earlier this season.TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, FSN West (Los Angeles), FSN Kansas CityPITCHING MATCHUP: Angels LH Tyler Skaggs (NR) vs. Royals RH Dillon Gee (3-3, 4.19) The 25-year-old Skaggs appeared ready to open the season with the Angels before the shoulder issues flared up and now is close to 100 percent. The play stood, two runs scored, and the wheels came off from there. He leads the majors with 26 RBIs in July, including 16 in his past eight games, and he has 76 this season despite a.254 average. Offensively, Eric Hosmer leads Kansas City with 108 hits, Alcides Escobar has 24 RBI and Salvador Perez has 15 home runs.

“Any time you’re hitting behind Mike, you’re going to get your opportunities”, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. There are little adjustments he makes. “He did a great job”.

In the eighth, Mondesi’s infield single knocked in Gordon, and reliever Jose Alvarez’s throwing error on the play allowed Orlando to score. He’ll carry a 4.17 ERA and 1.26 WHIP into Tuesday’s start against the A’s. He held the Royals to two runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

Santiago (9-4) limited the Royals to two runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings. A wild throw by pitcher Matt Shoemaker to first base allowed both runners to score. Giavotella, who began his career with the Royals, singled up the middle to load the bases with nobody out. Momentum seemed to finally be on the home team’s side.

He also pitched an inning in a 13-5 loss to Houston on June 25. Bedrosian has not permitted a run in his past 22 games, covering 20 2/3 innings.

In the first of the three-game tilt, the Angels will send southpaw starter Hector Santiago to the mound. “We’ll monitor it day to day and see how he’s feeling”, Yost said. He’ll be a free agent after the 2017 season.

“I wouldn’t classify or characterize any player as untouchable”, Royals manager Dayton Moore said. “I’ve never protested a game”. That’s what you do. The 28-year old lefty has struggled this season though, especially with the long ball.

“Whether we make a move or not, we are evaluating the landscape, which potentially puts us in a better position this offseason to improve our roster”.

Angels: Dr. David Altchek confirmed the initial diagnosis of RHP Nick Tropeano’s ligament tear in his right elbow. Angels RHP Joe Smith was unavailable because of tightness in his back. The 25-yearold left-hander, who had elbow surgery in August 2014, had his fastball clocked in the 91-95 miles per hour range in his return to the majors.

The Royals left two on base in the second, wasting an Alex Gordon walk and a Paulo Orlando single to right that found gravity a split second before a fielder’s glove.
