Angels option Shoemaker to Triple-A after bad outing

Morales had an RBI single with two outs in the 10th inning to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday night.

Barring a colossal collapse, the Kansas City Royals will waltz to a playoff berth. If he helps them make another deep postseason run or possibly win a World Series, it will be seen as another great move by Royals general manager Dayton Moore.

“It’s one of those nights”, Holland said. Calhoun came through off Holland as he hit a ball down the right field line into the corner to drives in both Giavotella and pinch-runner Shane Victorino to give the Angels a 7-5 lead.

So many people were having babies in July that one woman at the Birth Center had to have her scheduled induction delayed, because there wasn’t enough room. “I’ve got to go out there and get better, fix some things and get back here as quick as I can”. The August surge has pushed Holland’s K/9 over 10 (10.60) for the first time this season.

Street had slightly less trouble, hanging on after Hosmer’s home run and with a unusual mix of players behind him.

Luke Hochevar coughed up three runs in the ninth before finishing for Kansas City. Cueto pitched well in his lone career meeting with Los Angeles, but settled for a no-decision despite yielding one run on three hits and striking out nine in seven innings. He tied the game moments later when first baseman Albert Pujols let a sharply hit grounder by Lorenzo Cain through his legs for an error.

Meanwhile, the Angels are on their own fury road, but with no Mad Max or Imperator Furiosa to save them.

With closer Huston Street looking for a split in the series, the Royals tied the game as Eric Hosmer drew a lead off walk and advanced to second on a swing bunt. Three batters later, David Murphy wacked a hanging breaking ball over the Angels bullpen for a game-tying home run.

The right-hander with the funky assortment of deliveries scattered singles in the third and fourth innings, and hit a batter in the fifth. Ventura has walked 11 over his last three starts, so if the Angels can wait, they stand a better chance of winning. That’s the second most in major-league history to the 1998-99 New York Yankees, who had Mariano Rivera in his prime.

The crowd of 36,926 pushed the Royals’ season attendance 2,007,638, setting a franchise record for the fastest to reach 2 million.

The Angels were 1-6 on the trip to Chicago and Kansas City and have lost 17 of 23 games. The second start was just as impressive as the first ( 7 IP, 2 ER, 2 K) but again the Royals took a 2-1 loss.
