His mind went elsewhere with Matt Shoemaker lying on the ground, being tended to by trainers after taking a line drive off his head.

The right-hander received CT scans every 2-3 hours according to general manager Billy Eppler.
Sunday afternoon’s game between the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners was delayed for a few minutes after Los Angles Angels starter Matt Shoemaker took a line drive off the side of his head in the second inning.
Shoemaker had the procedure late Sunday at Seattle’s University of Washington Medical Center, and athletic trainer Adam Nevala is staying with him until he is able to travel to Southern California. Doctors administered additional scans and at about 9 p.m., a third set of scans showed the bleeding had not ceased.
Eppler told AP the surgery stopped the bleeding and Shoemaker is recovering.
Angels starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker suffered a small skull fracture and hematoma when a line drive hit by the Mariners’ Kyle Seager ricocheted off his head in the second inning of Los Angeles’s 4-2 victory in Seattle. Shoemaker will see a neurologist tonight and will spend the night in the hospital for observation.
Shoemaker was struck on the right side of his head with one out in the second inning, getting his face out of the way but failing to get his mitt up in time to stop the hard-hit ball.
By all accounts Shoemaker is expected to make a full recovery, thankfully.
Eppler also shared that he spoke with Shoemaker’s wife, Danielle, several times on Sunday and said she is ‘a rock’.
“It just gives you that feeling where you have a pit in your stomach”, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. They went in there and hopefully corrected what was causing the bleeding.
The team placed Shoemaker on the 15-day disabled list, as it is believed he will be able to pitch in 2017. They beat the bay area team 10-7.
