Dalit organizations have given bandh call protesting against atrocity against Dalit community youths in small Mota Samadhiyala village of Una taluka in southern Saurashtra.
A Trinamool Congress parliamentary delegation is slated to come to Rajkot and Una tomorrow and JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav is also expected to meet the victim’s family.
For at least three days, protests against brutal thrashing of Dalit youths at Una, allegedly by some self-styled cow vigilantes, flared up with incidents of vandalism and arson being reported from several parts of the state.
Sabrang India Writes, “Fast on the heels of a Dalit cultivator being hacked to death in Porbander Gujarat, in yet another gruesome attack on Dalits at Una in Saurashtra, iron rods were used to assault them mercilessly”.
In his reply, the Home Minister sought to turn the tables on the Opposition party, contending that cases of atrocities against Dalits in Gujarat were much higher during the Congress rule from 1991 till Narendra Modi became the Chief Minister of the State in 2001. Attacking the state government further, Kejriwal also said that these kinds of incidents are not new in Gujarat. Dalits in the state say they earn their livelihood from skinning cows that die naturally, buffalos and other animals, and vowed to fight anyone trying to stop them from doing so.
