Anger over Trump’s gun rights remarks
“Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish, the 2 Amendment”, Trump said Tuesday afternoon, apparently reading from notes on his lectern.

“If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do folks”, Trump said, before adding, “Although the Second Amendment people – maybe there is, I don’t know“. Susan Collins said Tuesday she can not support either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton in this year’s presidential election.
Trump issued a sharply worded reprimand of the group, painting them as “nothing more than the failed Washington elite looking to hold onto their power” and saying they should be “held accountable” for making the world less safe.
The letter, which was published in the New York Times, said: “We are convinced that he (Trump) would be a risky president and would put at risk our country’s national security and well-being”.
The Notre Dame College Democrats responded on Facebook today to the College Republicans’ statement, saying it was “unsurprising but nonetheless disappointing to see them embrace a wholly unqualified and risky presidential candidate”.
Clinton’s campaign decried Trump’s “dangerous” language and demanded in a statement that presidential hopefuls “not suggest violence in any way”.
Clinton supporter Gabrielle Giffords, the former Democratic Arizona congresswoman who was wounded in an assassination attempt in 2011, said Trump’s remarks are proof that he is unqualified to lead.
How would you react if you heard Donald Trump encouraging his supporters to kill Hillary Clinton?
“It’s called the power of unification – 2 Amendment people have unbelievable spirit and are tremendously unified, which gives them great political power”, Jason Miller, senior Trump communications adviser, said in a statement.
“Hillary Clinton supports common sense measures like comprehensive background checks that will help decrease the number of gun deaths our nation suffers every day”, the statement said.
Clinton, too, has made gains in social media with 72 million mentions in July, pulling up with Trump in earned media after trailing him for the last eight months, mediaQuant said. She said she had hoped the candidate would change his style and rhetoric after becoming the GOP nominee, but said he is, instead, “the same old Donald Trump”. “I’m not here to take away your guns”.
The US Constitution’s Second Amendment guarantees the right to bear firearms.
“If Trump were not a major-party presidential nominee, his comment yesterday might have earned him a stern visit from the Secret Service”.
Trump is struggling to transition from his strong grassroots primary performance to a more mature head-to-head battle with Clinton.
“One read: “@RealDonaldTrump is right.
CBS News reported that Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook responded to the comments, saying no candidate for president should “suggest violence”.
The NRA followed with, “But there IS something we will do on #ElectionDay: Show up and vote for the #2A!”

Trump’s perceived violation of political norms – candidates don’t typically call for physically hurting opponents – was all the more striking because the position he was criticizing isn’t one that Clinton even holds. And herein lies Trump’s real problem.
