‘Angry Birds’ Nests at Top of Box Office
To match that, “Angry Birds” would have to gross $493.3 million worldwide at the box office.

A flock of “Angry Birds” edged out superheroes in “Captain America: Civil War” to take the top slot in domestic theaters.
This image released by Universal Pictures shows, from left, Carla Gallo, Ike Barinholtz, Zac Efron, Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne in a scene from “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising”. It’s finishing the weekend with $1.05 billion and now stands in 19th place; its domestic total has reached $347.4 million in 17 days, good enough for 35th on the all-time list. New adult comedies Neighbors 2 and The Nice Guys struggled to get their footing, according to comScore estimates on Sunday. I was hoping that Civil War would yet again take the #1 spot, purely because it’s a much better film than Angry Birds.
Zootopia earned another $1.7 million and landed in eighth place at the domestic box office after 12 weeks in release.
Shane Black’s The Nice Guys was never a film I expected to do extremely well, even with two major stars in the lead and great critical reception.
Disney’s seventh weekend of its surprise blockbuster “The Jungle Book” finished a close fifth with $11 million at 3,460 sites, down only 36%, for a USA total of $327.5 million.
The film is part of creator Rovio Entertainment Ltd.’s plan to turn the smartphone app into a franchise, complete with merchandise, children’s toys and a sequel to the original game. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride) have always been outsiders. On an island populated entirely with flightless birds, a few outcasts take on a band of invading green pigs. New castmembers include Chloe Grace Moretz and Kiersey Clemons, who play the sorority girls living next door.
The R-rated 70s-set buddy comedy The Nice Guys grossed $11.3m for a fourth-place spot.

Looking ahead to next weekend, 20th Century Fox will debut the highly-anticipated superhero sequel X-Men: Apocalypse, alongside the Disney fairy tale sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass, which will be competing for the Memorial Day weekend crown.
