The animated adventure The Angry Birds Movie is the No. 1 film in North America after earning $39 million in receipts, Box Office Mojo announced Sunday. The superhero adventure has taken in $347.3 million domestic and $1.05 billion worldwide.

Deadline now reports that the Angry Birds movie will indeed hit the No. 1 spot at the U.S. box office this weekend.

Internationally, the movie, which was in its second weekend of release, brought in an estimated 55.5 million dollars from 83 total markets in three-day weekend, bringing its global gross to 112 million.

Sony’s animated flick flew past newcomers “Neighbors 2” and “The Nice Guys”, generating an A+ CinemaScore rating from under-25 moviegoers.

In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride) have always been outsiders. Sorority Rising from Universal cracked $20 million with a $21.7 million opening weekend, and this week’s other new wide release, Warner Bros.’ The Nice Guys, earned just $11.3 million. New castmembers include Chloe Grace Moretz and Kiersey Clemons, who play the sorority girls living next door.

“Seth and Zac are big draws and the movie is very amusing so we’ll do well in the coming weeks”, he added. The 1970s noir comedy stars Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe as mismatched detectives and has been embraced by critics (90 percent positive reviews) as well as moviegoers (84 percent liked it). The film now holds a 43% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 43 on Metacritic. Disney’s live-action The Jungle Book rounded out the top five with $11 million in fifth, swinging to a wild $327.5 million since opening last month. It should top “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” at $328.4 million this week as the 44th highest domestic grosser of all time. Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst with ComScore, said next weekend will be strong. The two films debuted at third and fourth place respectively.
