“The board of SABMiller will review and respond as appropriate to any proposal which might be made”, it said.

A company spokesman said the nominations were “business as usual” and followed various retirements and new appointments made earlier this year. These include global flagship brands Budweiser, Stella Artois and Becks; multi-country brands, such as Leffe and Hoegaarden, and many local champions, such as Bud Light, Skol, Brahma, Quilmes, Michelob, Harbin, Sedrin, Klinskoye, Sibirskaya Korona, Chernigivske and Jupiler.

According to a Forbes report, the current combined market cap of Anheuser InBev is £135bn (€182bn, $204bn), nearly double the market capitalisation of SABMiller which is £58bn (€78bn, $87bn).

Earlier this month, media reports had stated that Anheuser-Busch InBev is exploring the acquisition of competitor SABMiller.

More dismal Chinese industrial data was exacerbated by research from Investec, which claimed “nearly all the equity value of Glencore and Anglo American could evaporate” if commodity prices remain depressed.

The company was created in 2004 when Brazil’s biggest brewer Ambev bought Belgium’s Interbrew.

Anheuser-Busch InBev SA, formerly Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV, is a brewing company.
