The pop experimentalists of Animal Collective announced details for their upcoming album Painting With.

Word was that the audio was best in the bathrooms, so if you walked into a restroom at Baltimore Airport and were shocked to find a few men huddled near the sinks and whispering in hushed voices about the weird musak, that’s the reason.

The group also released the first single off of the new album, entitled “Floridada”. So where to from here? It’s urgent, ecstatic upbeat rhythms combine with sunny lyrics that are totally bonkers. Recording took place in the legendary EastWest Studios in Hollywood, home to sessions by The Beach Boys and Marvin Gaye.

The result: Painting With.

“Painting With will be available in standard CD, LP, and a deluxe LP + 7” + zoetropic turntable slipmat formats. At first glance, you may notice that Deakin is absent from the cover art ideas shown above, and the press release confirms that the trio that recorded Merriweather Post Pavilion – Avey Tare, Geologist and Panda Bear – are the ones behind this new release.

The LP has three different record sleeves, all painted by Gang Gang Dance’s Brian DeGraw, and that’s the “Avey Tare” cover above. “Those who pre-order the album now will receive an instant download of?”?FloriDada?”.
