Animal Crossing amiibo cards get firmer dates, pack details

Nintendo will first sell the Amiibo cards in Japan later this month, alongside Happy Home Designer on 30th July. In both territories, card packs are blind (you won’t know what cards you’re getting), containing three cards, including one special card.

The cards were also confirmed for an October 2 release in Europe, the same day as Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer and the 3DS NFC adapter for older model 3DS systems.

Each pack will contain one “special” card, although it’s not clear what that means.

What is slightly confusing about the European release is why the packs will only hold three cards. “Details of the cards” functions beyond that seem a little vague, but like the Amiibo figurines and recent Wii U games, it seems reasonable to assume their functionality is going to be important for hardcore fans of the series. The packs in America are released with six cards per pack, so why this difference is happening is unknown and slightly worrying.

United Kingdom pricing is still to be announced.

And that’s just the first wave – Nintendo’s pack design (posted to the official Nintendo of Norway website) suggests more will follow. The cards bring new characters into the game, which in turn bring new challenges and other items for the players to interact with.
