Anirban Lahiri wins PGA Championship long-drive contest
On the back nine, Lahiri missed an eight-footer for birdie on 11th and bogeyed the par-4 when he went into the bunker and was not able to roll in a 25-28 footer for par. Its thin fairway moves slightly to the left, and players were missing to both sides all day. Among others Matt Dobyns by hitting 323 yard and J.B. Holmes by hitting 315 yard secured second and third position, respectively. He took part in the competition last year as well, but missed the fairway despite coming up with a powerful effort. I did everything I was supposed to do, except one guy beat me.

Lahiri will be rewarded with a gold money clip. I’ve never been to the course. “I hit a good one and got a good bounce”, the 28-year-old Lahiri said.
Whatever people think about the 36-year-old bomber from Bagdad, Fla., whether it’s fans who love his awesome power and homemade swing and eccentric mannerisms, or fellow pros who think his persona is 90 percent horsepucky, or media types whom he evidently despises (and vice versa), the fact is, the man is one of golf’s larger-than-life characters.
The year’s last major championship in golf is off to a great start at the handsome Whistling Straits Course overlooking Lake Michigan in Wisconsin, USA.
“It’s pretty heavy, especially when you’re exhausted”, Woods said.
For the drives to count toward the contest results, the ball had to come to a stop in the fairway at the hole nicknamed “Big Country”. The competition was discontinued after some years and then revived last year at Valhalla.

Anirban Lahiri managed to hang in for an impressive round of two-under 70 and a tied 15th place despite the wind that picked when he was on back and costed him a double bogey on the 18th on the first day of the PGA Championships at Whistling Straits. Martin Kaymer pulled off his best Happy Gilmore impression but also missed the fairway. “I was scared to death playing (majors)”. “I didn’t know it was in the water”.
