Erdogan, in a Tuesday news conference with Putin, noted that the Russian had been the first foreign leader to call him.

Erdogan said he hoped that ties with Russian Federation will become “more robust” and that he aspires “to bring bilateral relations to the old level or even beyond”.

Yusuf Cinar, president of the Turkish global research center Strategic Outlook said that the Turkish president’s visit to Russian Federation means that the relations between Ankara and Moscow are entering a new era following the downed aircraft incident.

The meeting between Erdogan and Putin is expected to give a boost to economic relations between the two countries.

Russian Federation is carrying out a bombing campaign in support of President Bashar Assad while Turkey is fiercely opposed to the Syrian leader.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blamed the Fetullah extrem Organization (FETO) and its leaders for trying to foment discord between Turkey and Russian Federation.

“I think it is possible to align our views and approaches”, Putin told reporters.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday (Aug 9) pledged to reinvigorate ties following their first meeting since a Russian fighter jet was brought down by Turkey in November previous year, AFP reported.

“Some of the pilots who were involved in the downed Russian jet incident are remanded in custody right now”, Cavosoglu said.

Turkey accused Fethullah Gulen, a cleric who lives in Pennsylvania in the USA in a self-imposed exile, of backing the coup which the latter denied.

The dispute has strained U.S.

“Visa issues should be addressed, because one way or another they relate to economic cooperation”, Putin said.

Since July 19, Turkey has sent two bunches of documents to U.S.to extradite Gulen. Many Turks believed their allies in the West had failed to condemn to coup attempt harshly enough, and were too critical of the mass arrests. Turkey is Poland’s third largest export market outside the EU.
