As all Nolanites will furiously tell you, Anne Hathaway didn’t actually play Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, because she was never called the name.

Speaking to Variety during this year’s Toronto Film Festival, the actress expressed how much she enjoyed playing the role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman from Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises”.

Hathaway said she doesn’t feel possessive in the role.

“For me, the thing that made doing that part particularly fun was that she existed in his Gotham”, she said. “I loved that character and I had such a blast playing her”, Hathaway revealed. “I’m not sure how it would work because I think the Chris Nolan chapter of the Batman story has been wrapped up and I’m part of that”, she said.

While many would find it off-putting to mash Nolan’s universe into the current Snyder-verse, not all of the current DC film adaptations are going to take place in the same continuity. They just announced that the now in development Booster Gold film won’t be connected (which I feel is a dumb move).

We can’t forget Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman in Batman Returns. “I was shown such generosity from Halle and from Michelle and so, you know, I would do that the next time as well”.

Seeing as DC are hot on spin-off solo movies at the moment – Wonder Woman being their next offering – a Catwoman flick with Hathaway starring isn’t too far-fetched of an idea. The character is still viable, however; even though the Halle Berry version was awful, Elektra was recently redeemed by Netflix’s Daredevil (which also redeemed Daredevil himself), so there’s no reason we couldn’t have a great Catwoman movie.
