“Ben does the trimming, but they help us with the combing and planting” added Katie Howard, a Corunna native.
While some farmers saw their older trees come through the drought in good shape, others said the dry weather stunted the growth of even mature specimens.
Ready to be carefully selected and perfectly decorated, Christmas trees are popping up across Cherokee County.
The most popular size for a real tree is 5 feet and taller, though there are some trees on the property that are 14 feet tall. They also offer spruce trees which discourage pets and small children from touching due to their stiffer needles.
Santa will be busy, making three stops in the area in less than a week, but that’s just what the big guy does this time of year.
“We were a little low on stock to begin with”, Abbott said. “We have the best Santa and he is the highlight of the night”.
“For me…it signifies the beginning of the holiday season and family coming together”. He bought an established farm five years ago, and has kept up the tradition, planting new trees every year.
Only plug lights in if responsible individuals are at home and keep an eye on the tree.

The farm is at 6694 Yellow Creek Road in Ball Ground.
2-4 p.m. Children and parents may decorate Christmas cookies at the Red Jacket, take a wagon ride on the property and have photos taken with Santa. Visitors can bid on the tree via silent auction through December 3. Some of the white trees in the lot have a thin layer of paint to look like an overnight frost, while others have more paint to look like snow.
“Don’t buy a spruce this early”, he says.
So while you may be reading this prior to Thanksgiving, once the calendar turns to Friday, it’s on to Christmas.
On Saturday, the first of four Holiday on Main weekend celebrations will be held.
“They did a really wonderful job”, said Moore of the people who made the workshop possible.

Don’t forget to dress warm as it is late November and this event does take place outside. Suwanee’s Town Center Park will host a tree lighting, free treats, holiday crafts, visits with Santa, choral performances from several elementary schools, and performances from Sounds of Suwanee and the Royal Dance Academy. Entertainment will begin at 5:15 p.m. followed by the tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. and the arrival of Santa. Sundays – Thursdays and from 6 – 10 p.m.
