Annual Terry Fox Run set for Sunday in Osoyoos
Terry Fox Runs are happening around B.C. and across Canada September 20.

“Run, Terry, Run and now that you can’t any longer – we can run for you” is the ideal behind a jog-a-thon to be held this Sunday in support of Terry Fox’s marathon run across Canada for Cancer Research which was halted suddenly last week when the disease reappeared in his lungs.
Which brings me to this week…Do we disagree on anything regarding Canadian hero Terry Fox, his mission, or his legacy? Fox made a cross country trek with one amputated leg in 1980 to raise awareness and money for cancer research. The Foundation has raised almost $700 million dollars since the Marathon of Hope began.
In the 35 years since his passing, millions of people in close to 25 countries participate in The National School Run Day, The Terry Fox Run, and Terry Fox fundraising events. Visit terryfox.org for more details.
As they did past year , Meaford’s Simply Unique flower and gift shop will be providing yellow balloons to be used as route markers for the run, which will again start off from the Rotary harbour pavilion. Thousands more awaited him at City Hall.
“He wasn’t in this for any other reason other than to make a difference in other people’s lives”. I’m not special. This just intensifies what I did.
In conjunction with the Terry Fox Run, there will be a number of speakers, entertainment and family activities taking place at Assiniboine Park.
It was his story we were told throughout school and it was something that struck home for me at a young age as my opa passed away from cancer when I was in elementary school.

Vivica Lin is an eighth grade student at the school, who looks forward to the run each and every year.
