A Ludwig drum kit played by Ringo Starr on more than 200 live Beatles performances has been sold at auction for $2.1 million, according to Julien’s Auctions.

Ringo Starr has auctioned off the first ever copy of the The Beatles self-titled 1968 album, with the item selling for $910,000 (£600,000) at auction.

A rare pressing of the Beatles’ White Album from Ringo Starr’s record collection has sold at auction for $790,000.

“Finally, after 45 years, the Beatles are together again”, Irsay told the Associated Press via text message.

The two-day auction, which ends on Saturday, includes more than 800 items owned by Starr and his wife, actress Barbara Bach.

Irsay is a huge music fan and an avid collector. Last month, Julien’s Auctions sold a drum head from a kit Starr played on United States tv show The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 for an identical price.

Some of the proceeds will benefit the couple’s Lotus Children Foundation, which focuses on global social welfare issues.

Isray also owns guitars from the other three members of The Beatles, Paul McCartney, the late George Harrison and the late John Lennon.
