Another arrest in connection with Paris attack
Brussels and Paris cancelled New Year’s Eve fireworks owing to terrorism fears as Europe prepared to see in 2016 under tight security, while in Turkey, police detained two Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) suspects over a plot to attack Ankara.

Two people, including the suspected leader, have been arrested, and a judge on Thursday ordered both men held for another month.

Brussels has been on high alert since it emerged that several of the attackers involved in the Paris carnage on Nov 13 had links to the Belgian capital.
Brussels last cancelled its New Year fireworks in 2007, when it was also on high alert after a plan was foiled to free Tunisian Nizar Trabelsi, convicted of plotting to blow up a military base.
Belgian police detained the six during raids at seven locations in and around the capital on Thursday morning.
The US embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh, warned its citizens of “possible attacks” against hotels and clubs in the city in connection with New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Federal police have stepped up raids in and around the Belgian capital, after receiving warnings that a terror plot was being planned there on New Year’s Eve.

None of the six people arrested on Thursday has been identified.
The annual Brussels fireworks display attracted 100,000 people during last year’s celebration at the Place de Brouckere, but this year Belgians will have to find somewhere else to spend the holiday, ABC News reported.
The two were then charged with threatening to carry out terror attacks, recruiting people to carry out such attacks and direct involvement in the activities of an alleged terrorist group.
The man is the 10th person to be held in Belgium over the attacks that killed 130 people; a key suspect, Salah Abdeslam, remains at large.

Fireworks displays went ahead in other European cities, but with a much heavier security presence than usual.
