Diane Abbott, the MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, has been named as the new shadow health secretary by Jeremy Corbyn, after Heidi Alexander resigned from the post yesterday.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has insisted he would contest any leadership challenge.

Many Labour lawmakers accuse Corbyn of running a lukewarm campaign in support of remaining in the EU.
Ms Eagle became one of the most senior members to quit Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet today, citing the need for party unity.
“More than ever, our country needs an effective opposition which can hold the government to account”.
In her resignation letter Ms Eagle, the shadow business secretary, told Mr Corbyn: “It is time for you to stand aside”.
In his statement late Sunday, the veteran socialist said: “Over the next 24 hours I will reshape my shadow cabinet and announce a new leadership team to take forward Labour’s campaign for a fairer Britain – and to get the best deal with Europe for our people”.
He said: “I have come to the conclusion that you are no longer able to lead our party”.
Torfaen’s Mr Thomas-Symonds said: “I feel there is now a very real risk of the Labour party splitting without a change of leadership”.
