Another violent day kills 2 Palestinians, wound 4 Israelis

The military said the auto slowed down and then sped toward the soldiers, who were able to get out of the way before firing at the vehicle. It says troops jumped out of the way and were not hurt.

The injured were taken to a government hospital in Hebron for treatment.

Meanwhile, 72 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces, 45 of whom Israel said were involved in or preparing attacks.

The latest unrest erupted a month ago when Israel tried to restrict access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem.

The newspaper, which publishes a broadsheet in London, Beirut and Doha, also accused the PA of torturing prisoners in Palestinian jails.

Though peace talks have been stalled since mid-2014, the US-backed Palestinian administration in the West Bank has been quietly cooperating on security with Israel, while publicly criticizing the Israeli crackdowns as heavy-handed.

Mohammed Allan returned to the West Bank after spending one year in an Israeli jail for suspected links to a militant group.

Israeli forces committed more than 100 violations against journalists in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip in October, according to the Palestinian Centre for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA). Israel has repeatedly denied the allegation.

But it was in Hebron where tensions ran the highest, especially once Friday prayers were over.

Palestinians inspect damage at the Minbar al-Hurriya radio station in Hebron on 3 November after Israeli soldiers stormed it and destroyed and confiscated equipment. In nearby Ramallah, Palestinians throwing stones clashed with Israeli troops next to the adjacent Israeli settlement of Psagot.

A Palestinian was also killed by Israeli fire in clashes along the Gaza border.

Attacks and violent protests throughout October raised fears of a new Palestinian uprising, but violence had waned in recent days. Most were stabbings, but in several cases, Palestinians used cars as weapons by ramming them into people.

Mrs al-Sharawi’s son, Ayoub, said his father died during the First Intifada in 1988 after inhaling tear gas fired by Israeli troops but that his mother, who started driving in her 50s, did not want to harm anyone.
