A Santa Cruz woman has contracted the Zika virus, and has been asked by The Santa Cruz County Health Services to stay “indoors” to prevent further spread of the virus.

“We will actually allow the Kentucky Department for Public Health to utilize some of our equipment”.
State health officials said Wednesday they have found three more Zika cases believed to have been caused by mosquito bites in Miami-Dade County, bringing to 33 the number of locally transmitted cases in South Florida. This is because mosquitoes do not travel more than a few hundred yards in their lifetimes, Shaikh said.
So far there have been 35 cases of likely local transmission in the state, including the two new cases announced on Thursday. The department will coordinate with health organizations and providers around the region, as well as keep residents informed using social media and printed materials. She said as little as a bottle cap of standing water is enough to breed hundreds of mosquitoes.
Zika is not known to be circulating in the mosquito population in Kentucky.
“The Commission is working closely with local and state health officials to ensure timely exchange of epidemiological, risk awareness and mosquito control data in our area to optimize vector control efforts”.
Mosquitoes that carry Zika can lay eggs in empty containers, such as a gardening pot, and survive for more than six months until rainfall.
All of the cases were travel-related, acquired by Alabamians during visits to Zika-impacted areas such as Central America and Puerto Rico.
County officials also recommended that larvicide tablets can be purchased at little cost to be placed in standing water that is not easily emptied, such as ponds or large fountains. “Practicing safe sex with condom use, or abstaining from sex, is the best way to prevent sexually transmitted Zika”. The Pennsylvania Zika Virus Response Plan established surveillance sites for the Asian tiger mosquito in the lower part of Bucks County, including Bensalem, Bristol Township and Levittown.
“Most important of all is prevention. Prevention is with you, with me, with the commissioners”, he said.
“One case does not mean active transmission is taking place and that’s why the department conducts a thorough investigation by sampling close contacts and community members around each case to determine if additional people are infected”, according to the health department’s statement.

“Zika virus can be transmitted by several Aedes species mosquitoes, and Arizona is home to one of these – Aedes aegypti”, the news release said, noting later that Aedes aegypti is active day and night.
