Ansari condoles death of S.H. Raza

Modern Indian artist S H Raza passed away following a prolonged illness.

In a series of tweets, Chouhan expressed grief over Razas demise.

“Through internationally acclaimed art, Raza spread fragrance of our culture in every part of globe”.

Raza was born in 1922 in Babaria in Mandala district of Madhya Pradesh and as per his wishes, the last rites will be conducted in the district.

Raza’s Sir works are mainly abstracts in oil or acrylic, with a very rich use of color, replete with icons from Indian cosmology as well as its philosophy. He was honored the Padma Shri and Fellowship of the Lalit Kala Akademi in 1981, Padma Bhushan in 2007, and Padma Vibhushan in 2013.

He became one of India’s priciest modern artists in June 2010 when his seminal work, “Saurashtra” was sold for Rs 16.42 crore at a Christie’s auction.

When he moved to France in 1950 to study at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, his style of art shifted to greater abstraction and he subsequently began incorporating elements of Tantricism from Indian scriptures. He was later recompensed the Prix de la scrutinize in Paris in 1956, turning into the principal non-French craftsman to get the honor.
