‘Ant-Man’ debuts with $58M, ‘Trainwreck’ opens with $30.2M

Ant-Man“, the newest superhero film based on Marvel Comics and the twelfth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the big screen, continues to prove that Marvel can still create standalone films with new characters that are unique, thrilling, funny, and provide a must-see experience for fans of this genre.

Ant-Man” stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, an expert hacker recruited by Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to battle his enemy using a super-powered suit that allows him to shrink down to an ant’s size.

While not bad, the film made around $2M less than Thor and Captain America did during their opening weekends back in 2011. A totally winning comedy, “Trainwreck” may surprise everyone and give the Ant Man a nibble or two.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Did you direct both scenes?

The film follows Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), a master thief-turned-superhero who keep baddie Yellowjacket (Corey Stoll) from misusing the same technology that helps turn Scott into Ant-Man for evil. “And not only doing something that I love but working on movies that I’ve loved”, Rudd says. It’s the completion of her dealing with that and becoming a hero.

So, if someone is hopeful of seeing Evangeline Lilly in that suit at some point, will that hope be fulfilled, do you think? And that means, sadly, that we will have to suffer more and more of these Marvel cookie cutter blockbusting bullshit fests before the world finally tires of them, like Police Academy or The Matrix or, hang on, Planet of the Apes or Terminator [um, I think you’re simply referring to Hollywood – Ed]. Tell us about it!

We always planned to have a second tag at the end of the credits roll. The actors do what they can with characters and relationships we’ve seen a million times before. And I was badgering Kevin (Feige, Marvel Studios president). I don’t know if the public will take to “Ant-Man” – but I’m hoping for a big debut for this small wonder! He wants to get away from the criminal lifestyle and become a real father to his daughter. I wanted to see more and will definitely watch this again in theaters.

The second post-credits scene is a preview of “Captain America: Civil War”, due out in May 2016. Ant-Man is entertaining, despite a slow start, with decent performances. With a team of fantastically amusing writers, Ant-Man is the epitome of a fun summer movie. The direction by Peyton Reed (YES MAN, THE BREAK-UP) falls a little flat, lacking a lot of energy, as we are treated to the normal training montage and subsequent hiccups in the final plan.
