Anthony Davis files to return to NFL after 1-year retirement
After spending a year away to tend to health concerns, former 49ers offensive lineman Anthony Davis has applied for reinstatement into the NFL.

“My Official Reinstatement Letter to the @NFL and @49ers has been sent!”
“The 49ers” former right tackle wrote Monday on Twitter that he has sent a letter to the league office in NY requesting reinstatement.
The 49ers may be bolstering their roster just before preseason camps begin.
David, 26, was drafted by San Francisco with the 11th overall pick in 2010 and started in all 64 games of his first four seasons with the team.
General manager Trent Baalke announced the move on Monday, calling Gamble an “accomplished talent evaluator”. “I know many won’t understand my decision, that’s ok”.
“Because of his social media posts and his absence from all of new coach Chip Kelly”s offseason practices, his status with the 49ers appears tenuous if he is reinstated.
Erik Pears and Trent Brown have been the primary competitors at right tackle, with John Theus and Fahn Cooper in the mix as well.

The onus now falls on the National Football League to allow Davis’ reinstatement and the 49ers, should they want to retain his rights, to clear a spot on their 90-man roster to make room for his return.
