Anthony Weiner, Huma Abedin separate in wake of latest sexting scandal

The slew of images was the final straw for his wife Huma Abedin, an aide to U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who announced she was separating from the love-cheat after six years of marriage. “During this hard time, I ask for respect for our privacy”, Abedin announced in a statement, according to CNN.

Mr Weiner deleted his Twitter account after the latest report surfaced and it has been reported that news outlets NY1 and The New York Daily News chose to cut ties with him this week.

Weiner deleted his Twitter account after the new scandal came to light.

In a comment to the Post, Weiner said he and the other woman “have been friends for some time”. In May 2011 he sparked “Weinergate” when he sent a sexually explicit photo of himself to a woman who followed him on Twitter. When he ran for mayor of New York City two years later, his campaign stumbled when it was revealed he was still sexting women who were not his wife. In the 2013 Democratic mayoral primary he received less than 5 percent of the vote. “Huma is making a very wise decision”, he said in a statement.

The scandal is an embarrassment for Abedin, whose close links with Clinton meant her husband’s infidelity was seized upon by presidential opponent Donald Trump who said: “Who knows what he [Weiner] learned and who he told?”

Later on Monday, Trump released his own statement on the issue, praising Abedin’s decision, but criticizing what he called Clinton’s “bad judgment”. Former President Bill Clinton officiated when Abedin and Weiner married in 2010.

McKelvey wrote: “Abedin is now officially separated from her husband, ending (at least temporarily) a marriage that has been scrutinised in public for years”. Since then, Weiner has spent time focusing on taking care of his son while his wife worked on Clinton’s campaign. He suggested that Weiner might have compromised national security, but offered no evidence to support the allegation. I want Huma and Tony to work out their problems, and I think they will. “Anybody who’s been through any marital separation knows that it’s a hard process in a divorce”.
