In support of the World AIDS Day, the White House on Tuesday released an action plan for combating the disease in the United States over the next five years.
In 2014, YAP provided 289 free rapid HIV tests, which are accompanied by prevention counseling and referral to community partners.
Executive Director of NZAF, Shaun Robinson, says World AIDS Day is just as important now as it ever has been and believes we have the ability to end HIV transmissions within the decade. “They say, ‘Well, I don’t sleep with guys, so it isn’t going to affect me, ‘ or ‘I don’t sleep with black people so it’s not going to affect me.’ There’s certain demographics that have the highest percentage of HIV infection, but everyone can get it”. There are still over 20 million people worldwide living with HIV/AIDS, without any treatment at all.
Last year Ingham County had 25 new cases. “HIV is about global health and we need to fast truck and quicken the pace of action”, he said.
“The Health Ministry will continue to work closely with its partners in creating much needed awareness on HIV/AIDS”.
“HIV is a chronic disease now, so they can leave a long and healthy life on medication and do quite well. The unfortunate thing for me is, we still have about 50,000 new cases each year in the united states.”, said Dr. Linda Van Etta, Infectious Disease Specialist at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

Tuesday marks World Aids Day and despite the fact aids has killed an estimated 39-million people to date there’s a growing controversy over a pill that can prevent the potentially deadly infection. For instance, African Americans accounted for 44% of all new HIV infections among adults and adolescents aged 13 years or older in 2010.
