While the protest in Fountain Hills was underway, crowds of demonstrators gathered in Manhattan to march from Columbus Circle near Central Park to Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue. One of them carried a sign that said “If he can’t fix his hair, how can he fix the economy?”
Trump has accused the protesters at his rallies of threatening the freedom of speech in America, and he has previously offered to pay the legal fees of one of his fans who had punched a protester at one of his rallies.
At least two protesters were arrested for walking in the street.
Introducing Trump at both rallies were two top advocates of Arizona’s stringent measures against illegal immigration: Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and former Republican Gov. Jan Brewer.
Participants held up signs that read “NYC is a no Trump Zone” and “Build a wall around Trump”.
One protester, Malu Huacuja, who is Mexican, said she was protesting Trump’s rhetoric on immigration.
Arpaio has supported harsh measures to deal with immigrants living illegally in the U.S. He has forced inmates to wear pink underwear and live outside in tents during triple-digit Fahrenheit (temperatures above 38 degrees Celsius) heat. At the rally, I think people were excited, and excited to find so many other people who adamantly oppose Trump’s overt racism and fascism.
A protester was punched as he was being escorted out by security after disrupting the rally.
Arizona Democrats vote Tuesday, too, and Democratic contender Bernie Sanders campaigned at the U.S.-Mexico border in Nogales, Arizona.

Earlier Saturday, protesters blocked the main highway leading to the Phoenix suburb where Trump appeared with Arizona’s contentious Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
