But any prospect of the 25-year-old leaving the Vicente Calderon has been extinguished after he committed his future to Atletico until June 30, 2021.

Griezmann’s goals have helped secure successive third-placed finishes, and he was on target seven times during last season’s run to the Champions League final.

The 25-year-old is now one of the outstanding strikers in Europe and has been closely monitored by Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

The Frenchman’s commitment to the club will also be seen as a boost in retaining the services of current manager Diego Simeone.

L’Equipe added that Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain were the “serious contenders” for his signature.

However Simeone has finally chose to stay and Griezmann has followed in his footsteps by signing a new deal.

The contract also includes a €100m (£76m) release clause that guarantees Atletico a large sum should any club look to lure him away.

The club announced the news on Twitter via theirr official account on Thursday afternoon. We’re lucky the club wants to improve and be at the top and that helps us continue to grow.

“I’m very satisfied, very happy to keep belonging to this family and this project. Each year I want to improve and the club, the Coach and my teammates allow me to”, Griezmann said.

“The most basic thing is to continue with the key players we have and with our coach. As for me, I want to say that I will continue to give my all on the pitch to thank them for all the kindness they show me”.
