Earlier this year, the 27-year-old actor died when he was was pinned against a brick mailbox and security fence after his vehicle automatically began to roll backwards.
Now, Yelchin’s parents have filed their own lawsuit against carmaker under the belief that the company’s failure to recall the vehicle directly resulted in their son’s death.
According to reports in the United States the Yelchins are planning to take legal action for an unspecified amount of punitive damages for the wrongful death of their son due to the vehicle’s ‘significant defects’. The late “Star Trek” actor was killed this past June after his Jeep rolled backward in his Los Angeles driveway and pinned him against his security gate.
Representatives for the three companies didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment Monday afternoon. To thank everyone, including people in the industry who spoke out, his parents chose to take out a full page ad in the Hollywood Reporter.
Anton Yelchin’s parents are to sue over the actor’s death. “He would be surprised at how many hearts and souls he touched”.
In addition to his work as Chekov in the three most recent Star Trek films (including the one that’s now in theaters), Yelchin had built up an impressive and greatly varied body of work for someone so young.
Police said Yelchin had gotten out of the vehicle when it rolled away. The SUV was part of a global recall of 1.1 million vehicles by automaker Fiat Chrysler in April. Some drivers have exited the vehicle believing the vehicle was in park when in fact it was in neutral, leading to “rollaway” crashes.
A class action lawsuit was filed against Fiat Chrysler soon after the Stark Trek Beyond star’s death.

As stated, following his death, many of his colleagues spoke out in shock and sadness when they heard of the tragic news.
