Police are investigating whether the Jeep Grand Cherokee that struck and killed actor Anton Yelchin had transmissions issues.

According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall report dated April 22, some Jeep Grand Cherokees from 2014 and 2015 have a defect in that they do not have sufficient warning mechanisms to deter drivers from getting out of the vehicle after failing to put it in the PARK position.

“It appeared (Yelchin) had momentarily exited his auto, leaving it in the driveway”, Houser said.

However, they did plan to investigate to determine if the jeep did fail, causing the tragic accident.

The auto that rolled into actor Anton Yelchin and killed him may have been recalled in April.

Fiat Chrysler had reports of 212 crashes, 41 injuries and 308 property damage claims potentially caused by the shifters, according to official data it filed to the USA government in April. “It is premature to speculate on its cause at this time”.

We are all mourning yesterday’s tragic freak death of 27-year-old actor Anton Yelchin. Lt. Larry Dietz with the L.A. County coroner’s office told CBS News that the office “concluded that Yelchin’s death was an accident” caused by “blunt traumatic asphyxia”. Jalopnik explains that the electronic shifter did not give the driver enough feedback, causing them to mistakenly believe the auto was in park and leading to several roll-away incidents.

Now fans are wondering if Yelchin’s family will sue Fiat Chrysler.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee’s electronic gear would reportedly spring back to the same position after being shifted.

In April, Fiat Chrysler’s recall covered 2012-2014 Dodge Chargers, 2012-2014 Chrysler 300s and 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees. The vehicles were on voluntary recall in the United States due to the flawed design of the gearshift lever that made it hard to distinguish between the neutral and the parking positions. The studio did not comment on whether more “Star Trek” films are scheduled for the future.

Winter said any toxicology results will take months to analyse. Director J.J. Abrams, who cast Yelchin in the franchise, wrote in a statement that he was “brilliant. kind. amusing as hell, and supremely talented”.

Most consider the 2006 film Alpha Dogs to be his breakout film, and aside from the Star Trek films, Yelchin also had memorable turns in Terminator: Salvation (as Kyle Reese) and in Fright Night remake, as the young protagonist who must go up against the undead when a vampire moves in next door. Fiat Chrysler now uses a more conventional lever in all three models.
