Anton Yelchin’s parents file wrongful death lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler

In the suit, the family alleges that Fiat Chrysler, and the dealership Yelchin purchased the vehicle from, “failed to timely and/or adequately remedy the defective Subject Vehicle and/or defective Subject Gear Selector”.

Yelchin was best known for playing Pavel Chekov in the new Star Trek films.

The 27-year-old “Star Trek” actor was killed in June when his Jeep Grand Cherokee slipped into gear and rolled back crushing him against a fence.

The SUV was among 1.1 million vehicles recalled in April because its gear sticks have confused drivers.

As of late June, the NHTSA was aware of some 700 complaints regarding the issue, including 266 crashes and 68 injuries.

FCA did not immediately respond to Ars’ request for comment, but it told The Verge that the company “extends its sympathies to the Yelchin family for their tragic loss” and reminded drivers to consult their owners’ manual and to heed the recall.

The Yelchins became administrators of their son’s estate Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Before it’s here, it’s on the Bloomberg Terminal. Anton Yelchin left behind several unreleased projects, including the Netflix animated series “Trollhunters” and four films.

“It is wrong, it is against nature when the parents bury its own child”.

Anton Yelchin’s parents announced they will sue Fiat Chrysler over their son’s death in an emotional press conference.

“He was very special and now his death will save another life”, Anton’s mother, Irina Yelchin tearfully said at the press conference. The family attorney has said it appeared that Yelchin returned to his house to get something, which is why he was outside of the auto while it was running. When Anton had exited his vehicle due to some reason, leaving it on the driveway, it rolled back down the steep slope and pinned him down to death against a wall.

“He never cared about being a star”, Irina Yelchin said, wiping tears from her eyes. These instructions include advising customers to set the parking brakes in their vehicles before exiting”, the statement read.

Anton Yelchin did not write a will before he died and left behind a $1.4m (£1.06m) estate, according to court documents filed by his parents.

“We want them made to know that that type of conduct, money and profits before safety, is unacceptable”, he adds.
