Anton Yelchin’s parents launch wrongful death lawsuit

“It is wrong, it’s against nature when the parents bury their own child”, Yelchin’s father, Victor, said.

The 27-year-old actor died on June 19, crushed by a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee as it rolled backwards in his driveway, pinning him against a brick post and fence of his house.

Yelchin’s crash is still being investigated, but his vehicle was on and in neutral when the actor was found in his driveway. However, the auto seems to have rolled down the driveway quickly, pinning him to the gate, trapping him there, and eventually killing him.

It reiterated its condolences to Yelchin’s family on Tuesday but has maintained it is “premature” to speculate on the cause of the actor’s death.

“In spite of our unbelievable grief, we made a decision to come here to prevent other families from the same tragedy”, his father, Victor Yelchin, said in tearful remarks to reporters. “That’s why we hope this lawsuit will make other families never go through the same hell we are going through right now”. The 2015 Cherokee was part of a global recall of more than a million vehicles issued by the company in April.

“The safety recall was way too little and way too late”. As a result of this defect, his vehicle had a roll away incident… “The problem with the gear shift is that people mistakenly think it’s in park and there’s no warning”. The gear shifter problem had reportedly caused 266 accidents and injured nearly 70 people as of late June.

According to the family’s attorneys, Yelchin was sent a recall notice for the vehicle-one that didn’t arrive until a week after the actor’s death.

No monetary figure was noted in the lawsuit, which demands a jury trial.

“There’s been no, ‘We’re sorry for your loss.’ They’ve hired their experts and it looks like they’re prepared to fight”, Dordick said.

The suit does not say how much Yelchin’s parents are seeking in damages. “They put profits before safety”, he said.

Anton Yelchin did not have a will when he died earlier this year, according to a report.

But it added that the company had not been served with the case and could not comment on it. However, they did advise owners to follow the instructions in their owner’s manual and to become familiar with the instructions included in the recall. Many reported the vehicles rolled off after the driver exited.
