Anton Yelchin’s Star Trek character won’t be recast following his death
YOU CANNOT knowledgeably watch “Star Trek Beyond” without the pang of awareness that this is the last we’ll see of Anton Yelchin’s Chekov.

“We wanted to make it part of that Spock’s arc as well, not just a reference to Spock Prime, or what we did eventually, of course, which was dedicate the film to him”, explains co-screenwriter Simon Pegg.
There were rumors early in Star Trek Beyond’s development that the two Kirks could meet, although they were quickly discredited. In Star Trek: The Animated Series, he was replaced with the three-armed alien Lt. Arex.
In “Star Trek Beyond”, Captain Kirk, played by Chris Pine, and his crew must stop the evil dictator Krall from gaining power.
The remaining Star Trek movie cast is also expected to return, with the sad exception of Anton Yelchin as Chekhov – the actor was killed last month in a freak auto accident. The movie finds both Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) in a thoughtful mode: In the middle of a five-year tour for the Federation, Kirk wonders if he wants to be promoted to Vice-Admiral. According to James Porter, the news of Hemsworth joining the Star Trek cast is such a “great idea”, given that Kirk been following in his father’s footsteps all through the film series, The Guardian reported.
What I think Beyond does well is to give Kirk a chance to come out from his father’s shadow and finally be his own man. He’s proven himself worthy of the chair and he’s not fighting for his place in Starfleet anymore. “We’ll miss him greatly”.
Leonard, who had a cameo as an alternate reality version of his character in the modern films, is honoured within the plot of the new movie, a tribute Zachary was delighted about.
And Lin, along with writers Simon Pegg (Scotty) and Doug Jung, have arguably made the funniest “Star Trek” film since 1986’s “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home”.
Star Trek Beyond will be the first time that we have seen the actor on the big screen since Green Room earlier this year.

For a comparison, 2009’s “Star Trek” earned $75.2 million and 2013’s “Star Trek Into Darkness” debuted to $70.2 million.
