Antonio Brown: Josh Norman wanted to cover me one-on-one

Chris Thompson scored Washington’s only touchdown of the game on a 1 yard rush. During that second-half drive, the Jets had runs of 13, 16 and 16 yards.

This was not what the Washington Redskins had in mind when they took the field Monday night.

“I’m not going to lose faith in Breeland”, coach Jay Gruden said. I think you go for it there. All they cared about was getting it rolling and winning on the scoreboard. That’s a 15-, 25-yard swing. I will second-guess that one.

Early in the second quarter, however, they trailed 6-0 facing fourth and short at the Washington 29.

Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins threw two interceptions on a disappointing night for the team at home.

This isn’t the first time Williams is among the NFL’s best; despite being a backup at this stage of his career, DW played relief runner in 2015, in a similar situation where he spelled a suspended Le’Veon Bell.

Roethlisberger continued to unstir the pot, calling the Bengals defense “very, very good” and calling Burfict a “great player”. At 6-foot-2, 305 pounds, Jenkins has always been more of a run-stopping lineman in his time with Green Bay, Philadelphia and the New York Giants.

The Steelers’ game plan steered away from Brown matching up with Norman, and when they did throw his way he made plays.

Brown sounds like he would have been game for the Brown-Norman showdown. Cornerback Bashaud Breeland was tasked with covering Pittsburgh’s marquee wide receiver and the results weren’t pretty.

Antonio Brown lit up Washington’s defense for 126 yards and two touchdowns on Monday night in Pittsburgh’s 38-16 win, leading many to wonder why Washington didn’t put their top defensive back on him for the entire game.

The Ben Roethlisberger-Antonio Brown tandem has been the most productive QB-WR in the National Football League for over a year now, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down.

Pouncey missed all three games last season due to his leg injury, but he watched from afar.

“No, man. Like I said, our faith is trusting coach [defensive coordinator Joe] Barry, [secondary] coach Perry Fewell”, said Norman when asked about shadowing Brown. “The issue is you like to not show your hand in man-to-man all the time and so every time he travels, it’s man-to-man”. Doctson, the 22nd overall pick, played 12 of 58 snaps.

“We just line up and play”, Roethlisberger added.

So now the question becomes: Can they get their act together in time to host the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday and avoid an 0-2 start?

The Redskins aren’t losing any confidence in Breeland, either, which Gruden reiterated on Tuesday. While everyone knows the star studded names, what about those players who didn’t get as much publicity for their efforts?

There is certainly a rhyme and reason behind these selections, and I provide stats and specific plays to back up my argument. “How he responds to those downs will make or break him as a quarterback”.
