Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi tweeted that the government would do better by listening to voices of discontent rather than branding them “unpatriotic” and “anti-national”.

“That’s the way to solve problems in India – not by bullying, threatening and abusing!”

“We out rightly reject Aamir Khan’s statement”. Interestingly enough Aamir’s statement echoes those made recently by another Khan, Shah Rukh.

MP Yogi Adityanath said about Aamir Khan, “Those who want to leave (India) must not be stopped”. “They can’t tolerate a popular PM and an elected government, which is why they insult the nation when it is progressing”, BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told the media here.

The complaint was addressed to the Station House Officer at the New Ashok Nagar police station in east Delhi. “Aamir appears like a hero in shows like Satyamev Jayate and then says he wants to leave the country”.

Actor, director and producer Khan told a ceremony organised by The Indian Express newspaper that a sense of “insecurity” and “fear” had been growing in India. You feel why this is happening, you feel low.

Coming in support of the Bollywood star, Congress on Tuesday said what the actor is saying, the whole world is saying and asked the current dispensation to pay heed to the message. “Its high time centrl govt took concrete steps 2 instil sense of security amngst people”. Now, a filmmaker, Ullhas PR, has reportedly filed a complaint against the actor, saying that he is spreading fear.

Aamir had shared that his wife Kiran Rao suggested leaving India in the face of intolerance.

Meanwhile, BJP and BJP-supporting Bollywood actors came down heavily on actor Aamir Khan after he joined the debate on so called “rising intolerance” in the country, on Monday.

He added: “Dear @aamir_khan. Religious intolerance and not being secular in this country is the worst kind of crime that you can do as a patriot”, he added.

Aamir’s comments provoked sharp reactions on Twitter with his industry colleagues Anupam Kher and Ram Gopal Varma berating him asking “When did “Incredible India” become “Intolerant India” for you”.
