The Dallas Public Library professional librarians and archivists, along with Dallas Police Department employees, collected the expressions of sympathy placed at Dallas Police Headquarters by thousands of grieving citizens from across our city and country.

During a peaceful protest taking place in the heart of the city, five police officers lives were cut short by a sniper. “We here in El Paso have been one of the safest cities in the nation for the last five years and we want to keep it that way but we need to have some dialogue in regards to having better relationships with the community”, says City Rep. Robinson.

It was a brief appeal in a news conference yesterday: “We’re hiring”, said Dallas Police Chief David Brown.

“Our differences don’t dictate that we be divided”, Watson said.

Quickly, volunteers from the American Red Cross and Dallas Police Association joined the effort, as did officers from inside the building, and random people simply passing by the memorial. “It’s hard. I’m proud of him, I’m really proud of him”. “For me, it was another example of the character of the people who wear the badge”, said Randall. “These are wonderful men that lost their lives”. “All of us that wear the badge, we were the targets”, Child said.

Law enforcement officials traveled from across the country to attend the vigil, which was held in front of the Texas Peace Officer’s Memorial, a monument to all Texas law enforcement officials who have died in the line of duty.

“Every officer everywhere would love to go to Dallas” to pay tribute to the fallen officers, Child said.

“It was a wonderful experience here today”, said Val Leonard, the mother of a police officer.
