One woman was killed and three people were hospitalised with bullet wounds in overnight shooting incidents in the Texas capital of Austin, emergency officials said on social media early on Sunday.

It later emerged that another incident, which police feared was related to the shooting incident on Sixth Street, was confirmed by police to be a separate incident. The dead woman was believed to be in her 20s. In that incident, bystanders detained the shooter until police arrived to effect an arrest.
“One individual [there] did pull out a weapon and fire it at another individual”, Manley said in a press conference.
At least three other people have been rushed to hospital, it was reported. A man was taken to hospital after that confrontation. One of the potential challenges for police will be finding a witness who was not drinking at the time of the shooting.
Manley said it was not clear if the shooter and victims knew each other.
Austin Police Chief of Staff Brian Manley said earlier Sunday that officials are trying to determine who the shooter is and didn’t rule out one of them might have been taken to the hospital. They have warned the public to stay away from the downtown area, though they later added the scenes of the shootings were nowsecure.

Police have yet to detain a suspect, who they described as either a light-skinned black male or Hispanic man.
