Appeal Court Rejects Saraki’s Appeal

“It must be a legal setback for the embattled Senate president as the tribunal today ordered the Inspector General of Police to arrest and produce him in court Tuesday by 10 a.m”.

It was gathered that the senators who attended the emergency meeting held in a private office near the popular Next Supermarket, cut across party lines – the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties represented in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.

It stated that,”President Buhari has vowed to respect the rule of law and this is what he is doing by staying out of this matter”.

The Presidency in a statement released said attempts to link the ongoing trial of the Senate President to the Presidency are unacceptable.

Dr. Saraki wishes to assure Nigerians of his absolute belief in the judicial process and is therefore confident that the course of justice would be served at the end of this matter.

“Having collectively agreed that corruption has remained our number one enemy of progress as a nation, we owe it a duty to collectively give every support possible to this government in its fight against the monster that has ravaged our nation for this long”, Adeniran added.

The judge later issued warrant of arrest on Saraki for refusing to appear before it after two days of notification to that effect, just as Saraki’s counsels quickly moved to file an appeal against the ruling at the Federal Court of Appeal Abuja the same Friday.

“For the Code of Conduct Tribunal to wait for 13 years before working on a declaration that was made since 2003 is ridiculous”. But in his reaction to claims, the former Kwara State governor said he remains a member of the party. “Maybe there are some political opponents that are trying to get at him”, he said.

Mr. Adi stressed, “We believe he will come out of it. You are presumed innocent until proven otherwise”.

The APGA leader said Saraki had already started working against Buhari’s anti-corruption war, including his refusal to appear before the tribunal last Friday.
