“All across south Louisiana, and it has presented tremendous challenges to everyone”.

Helms, who recently retired, said the volunteer work she has done for the past two year is hard but fulfilling. Over 6.9 trillion gallons of rain hit Louisiana over the course of six days, affecting over 40,000 homes, killing 13 people, and leaving over $30 million in damage in its wake.

The Red Cross continues to help thousands of people impacted by the flooding in Louisiana where the situation remains dire. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.

According to a Washington Post report citing data from the Baton Rouge Area Chamber of Commerce, approximately 280,000 people live in the sections of the state that received the record-level flooding.

Tragic weather events of this magnitude have been occurring more and more often.

Meanwhile, this is the height of the 2016 hurricane season, and Red Cross chapters along the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coastlines are keeping an eye on a couple of disturbances in the Atlantic. “We’ll be there for the long run to help people recover from this historic disaster”. “So we maintain the ability to respond here”.

“They get there, they’re just like the rest of us”, Kindle says.

So even if you can’t go, you can still help, he says – and show support for the people who will deliver your help to those in need. “It’s cheaper to keep a volunteer there than send one back and take another one”. Then the family looked for a place to stay, but some places said they had no room.

This is when the Red Cross, steps in to help.
