Apple announces it’s sold one billion iPhones

The news comes a little over two years after Apple was reported to have sold iPhone number 500 million – a milestone it passed without much notice almost seven years after the launch of the company’s first handset. He did thank Apple employees for making the iPhone “one of the most important, world-changing and successful products in history”.

Apple’s sales rate in iPhones has undoubtedly been helped by the increase in iPhone sales in crucial markets, such as China.

Cook added that Apple never set out to make the most, but it has always set out to “make the best products that make a difference”. In an announcement by Apple, the Cupertino company has confirmed that they have managed to sell their billionth iPhone, which is admittedly quite a feat regardless whether or not you like the company and its products.

Customers are taking longer to upgrade their phones.

Speculation aside, Apple and iPhone fans will have to wait and see what is to come. According to analysts, Apple could unveil what’s being called on enthusiast sites the iPhone 6SE, which wouldn’t have a major re-design, but instead a handful of new features-32 GB of memory for the starter edition, improved camera and a thinner body. In a recent earnings report, Apple announced that it had sold 40.4 million phones in its fiscal third quarter, down from 47.5 million in the third quarter a year ago.

Apple has released nine models of the device since then, and it will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone next year. “The App Store is, and we suspect will remain, the fastest-growing and highest-margin (Apple) business for the foreseeable future”, said Schachter, who expects services revenue to hit $27.62 billion in 2017.
