Apple considered buying Time Warner, but it never got serious
Unnamed sources revealed that Apple senior vice president Eddy Cue proposed the idea of an acquisition to Olaf Olafsson, Time Warner’s head of corporate strategy.

Rumors of Apple at least considering a Netflix buyout have been floating for at least a year.
Owning a content company could provide Apple with some leverage to negotiate with the other networks for licensing rights, Cordwell said. The series is being produced for the Apple Music service. Since past year, the company has reportedly been working to launch an internet TV streaming service, but has been hamstrung by an inability to make the deals necessary with content providers. Through programs like Apple News and Facebook Instant Articles, Apple and Facebook already have become powerful gatekeepers for news and entertainment without owning any of the media companies that produce it. That may not have happened, but the company could be considering an arguably more interesting acquisition. It may prove temporary before a jolt from the next blockbuster iPhone or an iCar or something else. However, it looks like they wanted to, which tells us that Apple itself is now an untouchable behemoth in the industry. Spending a ton of cash on one company wouldn’t solve the problem, because Apple “wants a solution that has everything”, he said. It’s safe to say that the deal would have catapulted Apple TV into the limelight, potentially helping the product gain a larger portion of the streaming video market share.
As Apple reported disappointing earnings for the March quarter, and has its iPhone business declining, investors would be delighted at the idea of a big buy for the company to tap other areas to grow revenue.
Mega tech doing mega mergers with media companies would be a thrilling summer blockbuster for those of us who shed (digital) ink on such matters.
