Apple could borrow a big iPhone 8 feature from Samsung
Aside from the rumors that the iPhone 8 will have a curved OLED display and an embedded home button, there are also speculations that the iPhone 8 will come with an iris scanning feature.

Apple’s upcoming 2017 iPhone might be called iPhone 8.
A translated report from Chinese site MoneyDJ (via Digitimes) claims that Apple has already begun placing orders for “iris recognition chips” for its 2017 smartphone. If it’s going to be the latter, then it’s just like the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 all over again, since the South Korean phablet comes with both an iris scanner and a fingerprint sensor. We can see how Apple would benefit from the iris scanner but whether it will be offered in the next model is a whole other story.
Xintec, a Taiwan-based sensor packaging company affiliated with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), is going to start fulfilling orders for iris-recognition technology in Q4 of this year, according to new reports.
Apple is expected to go all out next year for the 2017 iPhone, which will mark the device’s 10-year anniversary.
The news about the iris-scanning technology of the 10th anniversary iPhones comes days before the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus officially debut during Apple’s September 7 media event. Xintec is expected to enter mass production for iris-recognition chips in 2017, which will boost the backend house’s revenues for the year, the report cited market watchers as saying. Specifically, Kuo said that Apple was working on an iris-scanning solution that would enable users to authenticate themselves (and perhaps transactions) with their face and/or eyes.
