Apple Ditches the Headphone Jack: What You Need to Know

The rumors were true: Apple’s next-generation iPhones, the 7 and 7 Plus, traded the headphone jack for Lightning EarPods.

The AirPods are powered by Apple’s new W1 wireless chip, the company’s first wireless chip, which enable quick pairing and connectivity with the iPhone.

Aside from some new colors, the new iPhones aren’t expected to look much different from the models Apple has been selling since 2014, which include a standard model with a 4.7-inch screen and a “Plus” version with a 5.5-inch screen.

On Wednesday, Apple announced the upcoming installment of its smartphone line, along with all the features we can expect from the new device.

Perhaps one of the most baffling aspect of the design is that not only does you iPad, iPhone and Apple Watch need to be charged, but now your AirPods need to be plugged in and charged too. And if it wasn’t clear from attack ads, a 16GB iPhone was no longer something actually worth purchasing. The iPhone 7 models ship September 16 and will start at $649.

But the camera is so cool! “Most people’s two-year contracts are nearing the end, so I think the iPhone 7, just from a replacement basis, will be a successful launch”, he said.

“If you’ve used a GPS Watch before, you know that sometimes it can take a while to connect to satellites”. The iPhone 7 Plus’s dual-camera lens means a 10X digital zoom and a 2X optical zoom. (They won’t be available until October, however.) After their battery runs out, you can charge them in their case, getting a 3 hour charge in just 15 minutes.

“We got rid of parallel ports, the serial bus, floppy drives, physical keyboards on phones – do you miss the physical keyboards on your phone?”.

“The reason to move on is courage”, said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

Apple has also announced that later this year, the dual camera will have a new depth-of-field effect that was once only possible with a DSLR camera.

Apple’s Phil Schiller said the phone was “the best” the company had ever made. “Not only will this force iPhone users to dole out additional cash to replace their hi-fi headphones, it will singlehandedly create mountains of electronic waste”, according to the petition.

Apple is also releasing high-end wireless headphones called AirPods.

Apple eliminated the headphone jack, while including with the iPhone 7 an adapter allowing users to run headphones through the device’s Lightning connector. But performance is quite snappy owing to the new chips and memory, and there’s more room for your data, with prices on par with the 6s and 6s Plus.
